More and more businesses are requesting the option to update their website content themselves. High Arte works with WordPress to give you a custom website that you can update on an on-going basis without knowing HTML or any programming.

What is WordPress

WordPress is a free, open-source software Content Management System (CMS) that is used by over 60 million people – from the casual user ("hobby bloggers") to the likes of CNN, eBay and Martha Stewart. It's a reliable CMS program that is supported by hundreds of volunteers and will be around for the long run.

Because of its popularity, it has evolved from a blogging platform into a full-blown website construction software. It's extremely well-documented and supported, with numerous books, forums and tutorials available on the web.

There are two versions of WordPress:

WordPress.com: the software is free and is hosted in the WordPress "cloud" at you.wordpress.com. However it has its limitations, such as a limited number of themes (templates) and no access to plugins (these are very important)..

WordPress.org: the software is also free, but requires your own domain name and hosting (less than $7 a month on average). This is the option we will most likely recommend. Some advantages to going this route:

Your own domain name (www.yourbusiness.com)
Emails with that domain name (you@yourbusiness.com)
Thousands of free and premium (paid) themes
The ability to have a completely custom theme designed
Hundreds of "plugins" available. These do a multitude of things from allowing folks to sign up for your newsletter to running a portfolio photo gallery.
